A beautiful, original 1950s blouse in printed cotton made by American designer Vera Maxwell. The blouse is short sleeved with a narrow pussy bow at front neck with a nipped waist created by two double tucks each front and back. Made from lightweight cotton weave with the prettiest small floral print in shades of blue and lilac. The sleeves are simple and straight with a small slit at the upper cuff. The front fully opens and does up with five pearly plastic buttons and a metal hook at the waist. Its hem has been finished internally with a ribbon. The waistline has a nipped in tailored shape with multiple darts at front and back. Create the perfect 1950s daywear look with a simple circle skirt and petticoat or cropped cigarette pants and wedge heels. Having previous designed for other labels, Vera Maxwell started her own label, Vera Maxwell Originals, in New York, 1947. In the following decade, Vera received various fashion awards and was notable for helping to distinguish an ‘American Look’ in fashion.
The neck opening is quite narrow with the top button done up but the blouse can easily be worn with this button undone and the bow tied in a more relaxed way. The waistline could be taken out for a larger fit if two to four tucks were unstitched.
