A divine bias cut silk gown from the early 1930s. The colours are a pale duck egg blue with pale cinnamon print. Made from botanical printed semi-sheer silk that has been cut and sewn on the bias to give it a beautiful figure hugging drape. The dress is a simple midi-length sheath with handkerchief cut inserts at hem which flutter with movement. The neckline is created by a stunning handmade crochet insert above a gathered silk ruffle creating drama at the bust which also drapes into little butterfly sleeves at shoulders. A ‘V’ insert at the back is hidden beneath the ruffle and meets a seam that runs the centre back.

A large triangle shawl of the same bias cut, printed silk can be draped over the shoulders as a shawl or tied as a belt or scarf. Both the dress and shawl hems are rolled and handstitched. The fabric has some stretch due to the bias cut. This is an original antique gown handmade from delicate silk, making it perfect for special occasions but it should be handled and stored with care.

Provenance: Sourced from USA

Condition: Very good- overall has lots of careful wear left in it but fabric does show some signs of age as small weak patches and the occasional small hole, including one in shawl. The largest is a 3cm run at the right hip. These have not been repaired due to the sheerness of the fabric but are in ok condition to wear. There is subtle staining on underarms but not visible when worn and a 3cm yellow mark on back left upper thigh. There are one or two pulled threads in the crochet.
