A striking 1950s blue and white day dress. This piece is the quintessential ice cream parlour, Californian beach, roof of the car down vibe. It has a classy square neckline with darts on bust, fitted waist and large circle skirt of pastel blue and white panels. The fabric has a medium weight and high quality texture which gives it natural stiffness, the upper body is lined and does up with a zip at centre back. Seams have been pinked and hem finished with a bias ribbon.
This dress once belonged to fashionista and intrepid traveller, the late Stella Veitch. Stella was known for her taste for well made, fashionable clothing and her independence as a single woman travelling the globe during a time when it was uncommon for women to do so. We love this dress and the story it tells, imagining it neatly folded in a suitcase journeying through 1960s Africa and the Middle East.
