The cutest pastel 1950s/60s two piece jacket and skirt by Peter Barron of London. This set is just so cool, made from an unlined pale blue and white harlequin patterned knit. This is quintessential Jackie O. The jacket features 3/4 sleeves with a split cuffs, a bold collar with button holes for adornment with other accessories, textured plastic feature buttons. The shape is defined by a tucked waist and a short peplum. The skirt is made to fit tight, just above the knees and has a centre back pleat and metal side zipper with hook and eyes. An easy fabric to wear and maintain, best washed with delicates by hand but probably could be machine washed.
This suit once belonged to fashionista and intrepid traveller, the late Stella Veitch. Stella was known for her taste for well made, fashionable clothing and her independence as a single woman travelling the globe during a time when it was uncommon for women to do so. We love this suit and the story it tells, imagining it neatly folded in a suitcase journeying to New Zealand from England via Africa and the Middle East in the 1960s.
